The Web Development Process - What to Expect

1. Finding Out What Your Needs Are

We carry out the design of your website as a carefully managed project. It usually begins with you the client contacting us regarding the web design project that you have in mind. Once we have gathered all the information we will send you a formal estimate or RFP, along with a contract for your review.

2. Project Preparation

At this point you should begin collecting your materials, content, and anything else that you want to include in your website. This web design process can take from 10 days to 8 weeks or more depending on the complexity of your project, timeliness of communications, and organization of your materials. Sierra Sun will setup your hosting account, email addresses, and databases at this time.

3. Create Mockup

Sierra Sun will put together a sample layout for your company and will revise this until we narrow down the exact look you want in your design and layout. During this phase we will also layout the site architecture, which is necessary to build your site navigation. This is important so that your visitors don't get lost. It is crucial that you put together a flowchart of your site for this and submit it to us as early as possible.

4. Entering Content

Once you approve your web graphics and template, we will be ready to start entering your content. This consists of formatting your text, resizing photos, photo optimization, and similar tasks. All data entry will occur during this phase, including product entry. You will need to supply us with your text content, company logos, photographs or images, brochures, and/or any other advertising or print materials. If your site is an e-commerce site you will also provide us with your product descriptions, weights, and images.

5. Site Configuration

At this stage we begin configuring your shipping options, payment processors, SSL, and any other external configurations. 

6. Testing and Fine Tuning

Your site is now complete but we want to be sure there are no mistakes, oversites, or mis-configurations, so we will have your site critiqued by hundreds of professional designers around the world who all have different browsers, computers, and connection speeds. We encourage you to have all your friends and colleagues test your website, and that you yourself go over every detail to be sure it is the way you want it.

7. We Launch Your Website

Now your website is published and live for the world to see. You can and should start actively advertising your website!

8. Internet Marketing

You may wonder "Now I have a website, how do I get people to visit it?" Well this is where search engine marketing (SEO), advertising, and internet marketing come into play. Sierra Sun does create search engine friendly pages, but we do not consider ourselves to be SEO experts. We can help you choose the best option to follow up with your internet marketing once your website is complete.

9. Follow-up

A good website is never truly finished, as it is always evolving with new content, updated to stay on track with your business goals and reflect the latest news that is happening in your company's industry. It is important to provide fresh content to maintain visitor interest and entice them to return to your site to see what's new.
